This contemporary duplex was designed to challenge the conventional perception of higher-density housing. Rather than presenting as a mirrored pair of dwellings, the architecture has been carefully composed to read as a single contemporary residence, with two individual homes seamlessly integrated within the overall form.

By avoiding repetitive symmetry and introducing articulated building forms, varied rooflines and layered façade elements, the design reduces the perceived scale of the development and allows it to sit comfortably amongst the surrounding detached homes. The composition breaks down the building mass, creating depth, rhythm and visual interest while contributing positively to the existing streetscape.

A restrained palette of natural stone, timber-look cladding, crisp white rendered forms and charcoal detailing is complemented by integrated landscaping, reinforcing the appearance of a single, well-resolved family home rather than a typical duplex development.

Rather than announcing itself as a high-density development, the design integrates seamlessly into the established neighbourhood, preserving the rhythm and character of the street while accommodating two contemporary family homes within a single architectural composition.
The result is a development that enhances the streetscape and demonstrates how increased housing density can be achieved without compromising neighbourhood character, scale or amenity.
